"Live at the Barbeque"
-Main Source
This weekend was a my first gig/outing being a [music] selector for my homeboy's barbeque. I am not a DJ!! Not yet. More like a DJ in training. Daniel-san tryin' to snatch the pebble from Mr. Miyagi or did he wash his car? (Whatever!). Man, what a learning experience. I got what I put in. I didn't get to practice much. Especially with equipment that I used. Since my class (Scratch Academy) I've been using vinyl. Big transition from CD turntables!! (I prefer vinyl now!!) I worked for days to get my music together but I neglected to work on the playlist.(muy importante) I figured I would just remember it. Well a lot went wrong. It rained for a portion of the day so I figured that I could get out of it but it cleared up when I got there. I set up my equipment a day early except I wanted to use Serato Scratch Live since I had a plethora of music on my laptop. The day of the BBQ I spent most of the day looking for CD that would allow me to play the music from the computer. I never found it so I had to head over to Guitar Center before the BBQ to buy another one. I showed up so late. I should have hooked up the laptop a day earlier too. I interupted the sounds by trying to hook up Serato while the music was
playing. Lot of feedback and pauses. Not good. After I got it working the software was buggin out. Well its possible I didn't know how to use it properly with the CD turntables. Worst, I couldn't remember my playlist. I blacked out! Thank God for the Ipod 'cause that saved most of the day. The amp for the speakers kept going out once the volume exceeded the max too. At least that wasn't my fault cause that wasn't my amp. I did get to play but it was so sucky!! I was getting some heckling from a guest. I got a lot of people making requests. I was sweating buckets. VERY OVERWHELMING!! The host helped me out for most of the night. He was pretty #$%@ good considering he had little experience too.
All in all I learned a lot. Hopefully I can be better for the next party. I still had a good time. The food was MMMMM good. The ribs were phenominal and the jerk chicken was hotter than a groupie in the artist's bedroom. My boy, Pablo, got twisted again!! You can't take him anywhere they serve liquor. (umm AAA!! lol) I just know that there was a cup in his hand the whole night. His tolerance must be getting up there.
